Let’s talk about what it means to have time and space for reflection.
“I don’t have enough time for meaningful reflection.”
I hear this regularly from food system professionals who are eager to reconnect with their WHY—their sense of purpose, what brings them to their work—but feel like they can’t slow down due to manufactured urgency culture (and real urgency that comes with much of our work).
Here’s the thing: Reflecting on and reconnecting with what has brought you to your work isn’t frivolous. But it can seem that way when you feel pressure to produce and meet deadlines.
In reality, the practice is essential.
It helps ground us in both the big picture and our day-to-day work. It motivates us when times get tough. It focuses us when we get distracted by shiny things. It reminds us to practice gratitude.
So I encourage you to consider committing to time and space for reflection as a priority among priorities in your work and life. Hold and take the time and space for it when you can.
