When you work in a field that you’re passionate about (food) — and in an environment that emphasizes and rewards non-stop work (hello, dominant American culture) — it can be easy to forgo nourishing yourself in favor of “getting things done”.
So take this as your start-of-the-year reminder / suggestion / endorsement to nourish yourself. Whatever that means for you. And to do it regularly.
Eat the tasty and cultural foods that keep you satisfied and connected to your community, history, land, and waters. Stay hydrated. And do those things that fill you—mentally, emotionally, spiritually, physically—to the extent that you’re able to.
Sure, doing so enables you to be more impactful in your work in the food system. Everyone talks about putting on your oxygen mask first, and for good reason.
But also: You’re human. You deserve nourishment. 🍲
